If you really want detailed instructions on how to make metallic materials then check tutorial #8, Advanced Materials, in the Visual Reality 2.0 Manual. I used the same silver chrome material on the CD in the image to the right.
Most people would be tempted to say
that this is a photograph of the Acuris
CD instead of a rendering. The key to
making this image (as well as any other
computer rendering) look photographic
is the lighting. In this scene I used 5 lights
to get that 'Studio Photograph' look.
